Born in Pisa, Mazia Colonna was accepted into art school at the age of twelve.

Marzia Colonna's first solo exhibition in London was held at the Campbell and Franks Gallery in 1979. Subsequently her work developed into an exploration of the body through colour and collage. Study of the human form continued with patterns merging as the body becomes landscape.
Since 1985 Marzia Colonna has lived and worked in West Dorset. Her work is in many collecions, both in Europe, the United States and Australasia. A major sculpture was purchased in 2001 by the Jerwood foundation.
In May 2002 Newby Hall sculpture collection purchased 'Brother Sun, Sister Moon'.
