Photo-etching and aquatint
Sets 1-4 represent a significant development from Ganter's earlier series because of the introduction of photographic imagery.
The photographs are of models that Ganter makes which extend her interest in architectural spaces and the relationship of figures in space. They are intended to be imaginary installations, theatre or film sets and are unimportant in themselves once the picture is taken from them.
The photograph is then taken onto the large steel etching plates that Ganter prints by hand. While the scale of the models is small, the pictures suggest truly architectural spaces.
Jo Ganter has exhibited internationally since graduating from Edinburgh College of Art in 1988. She has received many awards such as the Rome Scholarship in Printmaking, British Council Travel Grant, and a Boise Travel Scholarship.
