Richard James' Elspeth Owen's new body of work, 'Transit' is
on exhibit from 11th September- 1st October 2008
'I have always enjoyed the process of making, whether it was painting
or now with these assemblage. I think a number of my interests have gradually
moved towards each other and merged. The result is my art'...'The pieces
display or comment on the transience of all life and its place in the
Universe. Putting the objects in a box and sealing it shut in an attempt
to stop time. Also the nature of the materials I like to use demand
encasement and protection. The box also gives importance to these scraps
of past life in the same way religious icons have done for pieces of
dead saints'.
'We are all in transit. Everything is changing and endlessly proceeding
to death and rebirth'...'The work hints at an unknown land, somewhere
we think we know well, somewhere we live and pass through. But we don't
see it all and it's this world on the edge of vision that I want to
take a closer look at.'
