This recent series of paintings by Nicola Nemec are a response to the local harbours and marina.
The work explores the artificial channeling and containment of water, and how the hard edges of the manmade structures meet the atmosphere and geography of the natural environment. Vessels and night weather are also represented, with paintings such as 'Harbour at Night' and 'Shipping Forecast' reflecting the shifting character and ambience of this unique area.

Nicola Nemec studied Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University. In 1994, immediately after graduating she was selected from hundreds of graduates to win a SPACE studio award.
This consisted of one years tenure in London, and an exhibition at completion. She has continued to exhibit nationally, working on the North East Coast of Northern Ireland.
