We are delighted that Lewis Noble is to spend a year
working with Chatsworth making a body of work in response to the Chatsworth
Estate. This unique event will take place throughout 2008 - 2009 and will
culminate in a major exhibition at Hart Gallery, London in May 2009. The
exhibition will also preview at Chatsworth.
Chatsworth House is the world
famous home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The first house was
built by Bess of Hardwick and her second husband William Cavendish in the
sixteenth century. The house is set in the heart of The Peak District National
Park and is surrounded on one side by the White (limestone) Peak and to
the North by the moors of the Dark (gritstone) Peak. The house and its
art collection, as well as the extensive gardens and countryside beyond,
are jewels of our cultural heritage and a visit is highly recommended.
In autumn, Sothebys are installing a major sculpture exhibition in the
gardens.
