Elspeth owen studied history at Oxford university and sociology at
the london School of Economics. While training as a physcotherapist in
the mid-seventies she began to make pots.
There is an intimacy evident in Owens vessels which is a direct
result of her method of working. She sits with a single ball of clay in
her lap, and with only her hands pinches them into shape.
No clay is added or taken away.
Since 1992 she has been developing ways of combining ceramic with photographic
and video work in installation and performance.
Her reputation is international, and she has had solo exhibitions worldwide.
